Horse–Human Relationship Sessions

When you need space to see what is actually happening between you

Private online reflection sessions for horsewomen who want to understand not only their horse, but also their own role within the relationship.

You may already know a great deal about horses. You may have read the books, followed trainers, tried different methods and spent years working on yourself and your horse.

And yet, something still feels unsettled.

This is for you if…

You want to understand before you correct.

You are tired of collecting more training advice without getting closer to the real question.

You care deeply about your horse, but sometimes feel caught between your values and what you have been taught.

You want someone who can look at the horse’s behaviour and the human experience without reducing either one to a simple formula.

You are willing to examine your own patterns without turning the process into self-blame.

You want a relationship based on observation, curiosity and responsibility—not perfection.

What a session is like

This is a focused one-to-one conversation held online.

You bring a situation, recurring pattern, question or sense of uncertainty. I help you slow it down, separate observation from interpretation and recognise connections that may be difficult to see from inside the relationship.

I will ask honest questions. I may challenge assumptions, reflect patterns back to you and bring in relevant perspectives from equine ethology, behavioural science, learning theory, welfare and the psychology of the human side of horsemanship.

This is not a rigid coaching process, and there is no standard method you will be expected to follow.

The purpose is not to give you another list of things to perform correctly. It is to help you see more clearly, understand more deeply and decide what genuinely belongs in your relationship with your horse.

You can bring:
A specific incident or recurring conflict
Videos or photographs you would like to reflect on
A training decision you feel uncertain about
A changing relationship with your horse
Questions about boundaries, control, consent or responsibility
The feeling that you have lost connection or no longer know what to do
A wish to become more observant, present and deliberate around horses

About Carolina

I am an equine behaviourist, author, educator and certified horse-assisted systemic coach.

For more than fifteen years, I have studied and worked with horses, with a professional foundation in equine ethology and behaviour through ATN Germany. My work brings together behavioural science, learning theory, welfare, observation, practical experience and the human side of the horse–human relationship.

I do not believe that every horse needs the same method—or that every difficulty can be solved through better technique.

My work begins with the individual horse, the context in which behaviour occurs and the willingness to look more closely before deciding what should change.

Understand before you train. The horse before the method.

Not primarily. We may discuss training, behaviour, management or learning theory when relevant, but the central focus is how you perceive, experience and shape the relationship with your horse.

If you need a detailed behavioural assessment or a practical training plan, an equine behaviour consultation may be more appropriate.

No. You may book a session because you are questioning familiar horse-world beliefs, reconsidering your approach or wanting to become more conscious of how you relate to your horse.

The session is not an evaluation of whether you are a good or bad horse owner. I will, however, question assumptions and point out contradictions when that is useful. Honest reflection only works when we are willing to look beyond reassurance.

Yes. Short videos or photographs can provide useful context. They should be sent before the session so we can use our time effectively. Video cannot rule out pain or replace an in-person physical or veterinary assessment.

No. These sessions are educational and reflective. They do not replace psychotherapy, medical care, veterinary diagnosis or other regulated professional services.

Choose one session if you have a specific question or want to experience the work first. Choose three sessions if the issue is recurring, emotionally complex or connected to a broader pattern in your relationship with horses.

But don't take my word for it ...

Susanne

A few months ago, we got Ofir, our first horse, who is 5 years old. To get off to a good start with Ofir, I went looking for knowledge and insights, and I ended up at Carolina’s Horse.conversations.

After an introductory meeting with Carolina, I was so incredibly enthusiastic. Carolina is not only very warm and friendly, but she also has an incredible amount of knowledge, which is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted guidance with specific issues, such as walking together and guiding Ofir when he finds something stressful.

During our first consultation, Carolina provided a tremendous amount of insight and practical tools that I put to use. Carolina aligned with my specific needs and was able to help me exactly where I needed her. After our first consultation, I started working with Ofir, and I felt that Ofir understood me; he understood me, and I did my best to understand him. In this way, we made huge strides and were able to go out together in a relaxed manner.

During the process with Ofir, I noticed that I was also learning a lot about myself, and during a second consultation with Carolina, we looked at the aspect of setting boundaries. I got so much out of this! Protecting your boundaries without directing it at the other person (in this case, Ofir). Setting boundaries without scaring the other person away, but doing so from a place of strength, self-awareness, and carrying myself. It is a subject with many layers, and Carolina is able to beautifully translate what Ofir demonstrates in this regard and how I can develop in this area. I am incredibly grateful for these insights!

After the conversation with Carolina, I was able to put the insights and knowledge into practice; it was an amazing and still exciting moment, and what happened with Ofir was very bizarre and immediately visible. Our nervous systems started co-regulating, and it was truly magical to be connected with myself and Ofir in this way.

I wish this for everyone, and I am very happy that Carolina is helping us on our journey!

“Carolina helped me immensely with my traumatized Haflinger mare. She reads both horse and human with incredible sensitivity and offers clear guidance - even simple ways to release tension. From groundwork to bitless riding, everything happened at the horse’s pace. I’m amazed by the progress and the harmony we’ve created together.”
